Guided Walk Explores the Ancient Golden Road in Pembrokeshire

A Journey Through Prehistoric Landscapes

A special guided walk will soon offer visitors the chance to experience one of Wales’ most historic routes. The event, titled Discovering the Golden Road, is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, beginning at Tafarn Sinc.

Participants will set out on a two-hour exploration of the Golden Road, a historic pathway that crosses the dramatic landscape of the Preseli Hills.

The walk will be led by Tomos Jones, who will guide visitors through the archaeological and cultural significance of the region.

An Ancient Route With Deep Historical Roots

The Golden Road is believed to have served as an important trackway for thousands of years. Archaeologists suggest that it once connected ancient communities and ceremonial sites scattered across the hills.

Because of its strategic location and long history, the route has become one of the most recognizable heritage landscapes in the region. Walking along it today allows visitors to follow a path that people may have used since prehistoric times.

Connecting People With Heritage

The event is organized in support of the Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust, which works to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.

According to Katie Macro, activities like this help deepen people’s connection to the landscape.

She explained that the Golden Road is one of Pembrokeshire’s most iconic ancient routes. Events that highlight its history not only educate visitors but also raise funds that help protect the park’s unique environment and historical sites for future generations.

Discussion and Storytelling After the Walk

After completing the walk, participants will return to Tafarn Sinc for an informal question-and-answer session with Tomos Jones. This relaxed discussion will allow guests to reflect on the stories and archaeological insights shared during the walk.

It also offers an opportunity for attendees to learn more about the region’s past and the ongoing efforts to study and preserve its historic landscapes.

A Partnership Supporting Heritage Conservation

The event is being delivered in collaboration with Golden Road Gin.

The company’s founder, Jennifer Wheeler, described the experience as a unique chance to explore the history and natural beauty of the Preseli Hills with an expert guide.

Following the walk and discussion, guests will be invited to enjoy a gin-tasting session, giving them a chance to sample the brand’s products while continuing conversations about the region’s heritage.

Supporting Conservation Efforts

Golden Road Gin also contributes directly to preservation efforts. The company donates 10 pence from every bottle sold online to the Pembrokeshire Coast Charitable Trust.

These contributions help fund conservation and heritage projects throughout the national park, supporting both the natural environment and historically significant sites.

Event Details

Visitors attending the event will also have the option to purchase lunch during the gathering at Tafarn Sinc. With a mix of history, scenic walking, discussion, and local flavors, Discovering the Golden Road promises to be an engaging way to experience one of Wales’ most fascinating ancient landscapes.
